Description:

Native America, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan, Chaco Reserve type, ca. 1100 CE. A Chaco Reserve style black-on-white pottery pitcher, created via the traditional coil-and-scrape method. The body and handle are decorated with jagged triangles and linear patterns. Pitchers such as this may have prepared hot beverages, and interestingly, researchers have gathered evidence of cocoa from Chaco pottery, indicating trade between Mesoamerican cultures and their neighbors to the north! Anasazi people may have served cocoa or other beverages in pitchers such as this. Size: 5" Diameter x 6.75" H (12.7 cm x 17.1 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Mark Brady collection
