Description:

Native American, Southern Colorado Plateau, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) culture, Tularosa, ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a round but stable base, tall walls, a thin rim, and a deep basin. The well-polished vessel is covered with a cream-hued slip, and the interior boasts dense spiraling motifs in faded black pigment. Size: 8.2" W x 3.5" H (20.8 cm x 8.9 cm).

Provenance: ex-Joan Shaw collection, bought in 1971; loaned to the Mesa Verde Museum, 1962-1970; ex-Bill Mitchell collection, Cortez, Colorado, USA, acquired from 1958 to 1962
