Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1250 to 1350 CE. A hand-built pottery pitcher with black linear and geometric motifs covering the white ground. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods. Anasazi pottery was made by hand coiling clay, then smoothing the surface and painting with designs before firing. Though the meanings of many of these symbols have been lost via the passage of time, scholars posit that they are largely reference natural phenomena and human relations. Size: 5.5" Diameter x 4.5" H (14 cm x 11.4 cm)
