Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Northern Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Bidahochi, ca. 1325 to 1400 CE. A lovely bowl built via the traditional coil-and-scrape technique with a round but stable base, tall walls, and a thick rim that slightly overhangs the deep basin; a pair of drilled suspension holes are situated along the rim. Decorating the basin of this gray-white composition is ample black pigment that forms triangular quadrants, each filled with linear, zigzagging, stippled, and lightning bolt motifs, all beneath a solid black band encircling the upper basin. Bidahochi black-on-white is a transitional pottery type that is very similar to Jeddito black-on-yellow ware except that it was fired in a neutral atmosphere rather than an oxidizing one. Size: 8.625" W x 3.75" H (21.9 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-John B. Kendrick II collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired 1965 to 1990; John B. Kendrick II was that son of John B. Kendrick, Wyoming governor and US senator
