Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Inuit, Aleutian, or Punuk culture, Punuk or Pre-Contact Period, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A lovely diamond-shaped wrist guard for a bow, hand-carved from partially fossilized walrus bone. The slender guard has beautifully incised linear motifs along the front as well as a pair of pierced attachment slits in the middle. Hunters would attach guards like this example to the inside of the wrist of the hand holding the bow so that the released bow string would not injure them when loosing an arrow. Size: 5.25" L x 0.8" W (13.3 cm x 2 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.
