Depicting a mother and child, from the Tumaco or La Tolita cultures of ancient Ecuador or Colombia, ca. 300 BCE - 300 CE. The fine, light-colored clay from which this figure is made is indicative of figures from both of these ancient cultures from adjoining regions. The rattle still functions. Measures approximately 5-1/2"H. Provenance: Acquired from a reputable Texas, USA auction house.   • Condition: Expected weathering, wear, chipping, abrasions and minor loss for an authentic, ancient example exposed to the elements for millennia. The head has been reattached with restoration over the breakline at the neck.
