Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A collection of ten cylindrical and thirty-nine round translucent rock crystal (quartz) beads made by the Tairona and strung into a modern necklace with modern findings. Although today we classify minerals by their geochemistry, people in the ancient pre-Columbian world classified them according to their perceived properties. The translucence of crystal seems to have connected it to the sea, rivers, and lakes. Wearable! Length of strand: 21" L (53.3 cm)
