Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A gorgeous bracelet shaped from a sheet of 47% gold and 47% silver alloy. The fashionable accessory was first shaped by hammering the sheet metal around a broad mandrel in the relative shape of a wrist and then pounded to create hundreds of petite stippling marks in repousse that are perhaps meant to emulate tree bark or scaly fish skin. Size: 3.1" W x 3.7" H (7.9 cm x 9.4 cm); 5.7" H (14.5 cm) on included custom stand; metal quality: 47% gold, 47% silver, 4% copper

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, before 2010; ex-Ian Arundel collection, California, USA, the Old Curiosity Cabinet, Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, California, USA, collected 1950-1970
