Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a pottery head painted a deep red color with facial features that suggest it is from the Nayarit region of the West Mexican shaft tomb cultural tradition. The head has small holes at the ears that may relate to its use as a musical instrument. Size: 3-1/2" H x 3" W x 2-1/2" L (9 cm x 7-1/2 cm x 6 cm).
