From the ancient Nayarit region of West Mexico, ca 100 BCE - 250 CE. This terracotta example is distinctly of the Ixtlan del Rio variety of Nayarit figures, and depicts a male individual playing a drum. He is shown wearing a tall, pointed headdress, large ear spools, a necklace and a loin cloth. Original painted accent decoration remains in white against a red slip. This is an excellent example of the type in original condition, with great pre-1970 provenance. 5-1/2" tall. Provenance: Former Bick collection, Florida, USA. Collected in the late 1940's. All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back. The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.

  • Condition: Intact. Only minor weathering, wear, chipping and abrasions, with excellent Manganese and other mineral deposits overall.
