Description:

West Mexico, ca. 250 BCE. ~6" wide x about 2-1/4" tall. The form of the bowl was pinched by the ancient maker to form four lobes rather than being circular, when viewed from the top. This form may have symbolic significance, perhaps indicative of the four cardinal directions. The exterior is embellished with geometric patterned decoration in red, orange and white pigments in typical Ixtlan del Rio style, while the interior was finished in a fine white slip.   • Condition: Repairs to a few small rim shards, with minor fill, and a few stable stress lines. Original pigment remains in excellent condition. Otherwise, minor weathering, wear, abrasions, chipping and minor loss overall. Excellent Manganese and other mineral deposits remain as evidence of age and authenticity.
