Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche IV, ca. 400-500 CE. Dramatic vessel in form of llama head with downturned ears and large, dreamy eyes. Gorgeously burnished orange-brown finish. Llamas are of great importance in the Andean region both as beasts of burden and sources of meat. The Moche people frequently placed llamas or representations of llamas in the burial sites of of important people as offerings for the afterlife. 6-1/2"H x 7"W
