Description:

From ancient Mexico, circa 300 B.C. - 300 A.D. Measures approximately 5" tall by about 2 3/4" wide (un-mounted, item alone), and about 6" tall mounted on metal display stand. This example exhibits the expected minimalist characteristics of a transition between the early M-2 and M-4 varieties, according to Carlo Gay's important publication "Mezcala Stone Sculpture, The Human Figure". Only essential details were rendered by the ancient artisan to suggest human-like features and volume. Provenance: From an over 40 year old Seattle, Washington, USA private collection. Authenticity Guaranteed and a Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this lot The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.

  • Condition: Intact with no restoration or repair. Minor chips and abrasions at extremities, with weathering and wear on the surface overall. The patina is very muted, with wonderful dendritic etchings on the surface from millennia of exposure to the elements.
