Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE; Quimbaya culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. Latin America, Mexico, 10th to 16th century CE. A collection of pottery spindle whorls that have been strung in modern times as a wearable necklace. Included are 46 ancient whorls of many shapes and sizes from a variety of Pre-Columbian to Post-European Contact Mesoamerica Cultures. The whorls from Mesoamerica have distinctive tiered profiles as well as painted motifs, while the more discoidal are likely Ecuadorian cultures. Size of strand: 21.5" L (54.6 cm); largest bead: 1.2" Diameter (3 cm)
