Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 600-900 CE. This intriguing bichrome pottery vessel greets us with the face of a deity protruding from the front panel of its surface. Likely the Mayan wind god, this spiritual visage is delineated with large, almond shaped eyes, a distinctive browline, air-filled chubby cheeks, pursed lips, and a geometric fringed coiffure. The remainder of the exterior is incised with a low-relief decorative program; upper and lower registers are comprised of abstract, geometric designs framed by solid red bands. Size: 11-1/2"H x 7" at widest point. Provenance: Ex-private George Martin collection, Georgia, USA. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #80043
