Pre-Columbian, Maya, Late Classic Period, 500 to 800 CE. This is a small pottery head, obviously hand-made rather than molded, in the form of a man's face completely with large, detailed mustache and goatee. Very few Maya rulers are known to have had facial hair, with most of the examples known from steles excavated in lowland Maya cities. Size: 1" L x 1.75" W x 2.75" H (2.5 cm x 4.4 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
