Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-carved jadeite ear spool of mottled pistachio and sage hues exhibiting a broad, discoid form with a central hole and a thick plug on the verso. The verso is incised with parallel striations along each edge of the verso, perhaps for additional grip while being worn, and the central hole was perhaps adorned with additional ornamentation. Size: 4.1" W x 3.4" H (10.4 cm x 8.6 cm); 9.1" H (23.1 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Chips to some peripheral areas, with one stable hairline fissure, and softening to some incised linear striations along the verso. Great surface smoothness and jadeite coloration throughout.
