Description:

Southeastern Mexico, Ca 500 to 800 CE. Really exceptional terracotta depiction of an old man, with deeply-wrinkled face, large ears with blue earplugs and twin attachment holes in top of head. Reverse cut away with slit to hold small rattling "pellet" (still in place giving the bell a delightful sound). 4-1/8"H x 3-1/2"W - not counting custom stand. PROVENANCE: Ex-private AZ collection, acquired in the 1960's. The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.
