Description:

Inca Empire, southern Ecuador to northern Chile, Ca 1475 to 1500 CE. Perhaps the most recognizable form of pottery produced by the Inca, and most likely crafted by captured Chimu potters, this water jar, known as an aryballos - a Greek term used to describe small globular vessels - was crafted in blackware pottery with the head of a man on the neck, wide body with two small loop handles. The body was impressed with a fish motif and then burnished. 8" H by 8" W to handles.
