Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Huari/Wari culture, ca. 600-800 CE. Following the decline of the Moche, The Wari (or Huari) Empire emerged as a powerful empire in the Andes. The Wari are esteemed for their ceramics, many of which depicted images of the Staff God, an important deity in the Andes which during the Wari period had become specifically associated with the Lake Titicaca region on the modern Peru-Bolivia border. Some interpret the Staff God as the precursor to the sun, moon and thunder deity pantheon of the Inca. This canteen features four representations of the Staff God painted in shades of brown, black, cream, red, and grey against a red background. 6-3/4"H x 6"W x 4-1/4"D
