Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Guangala culture, ca. 100-500 BCE. The Guangala culture flourished in the territory of the modern-day Ecuadorian provinces of Manabí and Guayas, between the semi-arid coastal regions and the fertile valleys of the Colonche Mountains. Guangala sculptors created both anthropomorphic and zoomorphic effigy figures. This is an example of an archaic male figure. Male figures are often naked, some with loincloths, hands on waist, adorned with necklaces and ear ornaments and sometimes tattoos or body paint. 7-3/4" H
