Description:

Pre-Columbian, Chupicuaro, Pre-Classic Mexico, circa 300 BCE to 100 CE. This figure depicts an attractive young female, with emphasis on her feminine attributes, perhaps used ceremonially as symbolic of the concept of fertility or the passage of a young woman into womanhood. She appears to be depicted as pregnant, given her slightly protruding belly. She is depicted with pellets on her shoulders (typically thought to be indicative of ritual scarification or possible applied decoration), wearing a large necklace, an attractive hairstyle, and an elaborate wreath-like head ornament. Includes custom display stand, as shown. Size: 3.6" H (9.1 cm); 4.5" (11.4 cm) on stand.
