Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador or Colombia, ca. 500 CE. A stone axe blade in an anchor shape, made from a speckled black and gray stone. The blade end is a unique shape, a crescent form attached to a thick and long neck. A groove was made on the narrow butt end for hafting this stone to a wood pole with cords. Size: 6.25" L x 4.25" W (15.9 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Royal Athena Galleries, New York City, New York, USA; ex-Lord Alpine collection of West Green, England; acquired from Lord McAlpine in June 1993.
