Expertly carved and string-cut from a stunning piece of translucent, blue-green jade, a face mask pendant presenting an expressive visage looking out with a wide-eyed countenance and a toothy grimace, wearing a headdress comprised of two long-beaked birds. In addition to the openwork beneath the beaks, the gentleman's ears are pierced for attaching ornaments. In the Pre-Columbian World, birds were regarded as animals of the celestial realm that served as messengers between humankind and their deities. Perforated at the top center for suspension.
