Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A collection of 12 ancient shell beads that were perhaps part of an ancient piece of burial jewelry, gathered together and strung in modern times as a wearable necklace with a hook clasp. The beads consist of thick discs and slightly curved tubular shapes that are notched along the surface. Size (strand): 20" L (50.8 cm); (large beads): 3" L x 0.375" W (7.6 cm x 1 cm); (case): 12.125" L x 8.125" W (30.8 cm x 20.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
