Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A white, woven tunic fragment depicting a row of felines and a row of waves. Frontal facing figures like these pointed-eared felines are thought to signify either the gods or the ruling elite. Felines were also a symbol of rulership and martial prowess, as well as shamanism. Size: 24.2" W x 15.5" H (61.5 cm x 39.4 cm)
