Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1000 CE. "Hairless Dog" vase of female dog nursing a puppy. Note: the "Hairless Dog" ceramic form originated in Western Mexico and spread to Peru by traders on sea rafts around 900-1000 CE. Dogs were believed to assist the dead in their journey to the Underworld.
