Pre-Columbian, Central to North Coast Peru, Chancay or Inca, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. An attractive Chancay textile tump line, woven from camelid fibers (llama or alpaca wool) dyed in hues of rosy red, yellow ochre, russet, and cream, the central textile panel woven with an intricate diamond pattern with cords to each side to attach to small pottery vessels. Such tump lines were used to carry loads using the forehead, hands free! Size: entire tump line measures 67.5" L (171.4 cm); central panel measures 10" (25.4 cm)
