Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northwestern Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. An endearing anthropomorphic effigy vessel, the figure in high relief with arms bent at the elbows and hands placed at his temples as if he is engaged in a dance (Macarena perhaps? -Please forgive my questionable humor). The figure's visage is quite expressive with wide open, rectangular-shaped eyes, open mouth of a similar rectangular form, dramatic brows and long equine nose, and red-brown and white face paint. The surface boasts an intricate stylized geometric decorative program inspired by textile motifs painted in vivid polychrome hues of red, beige, and cream. A wonderful piece with excellent provenance. Size: 5.25" W x 5.75" H (13.3 cm x 14.6 cm).
