Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca with Chimu influence, ca. 1200-1500 CE. Handsome and significant pair of Chimu Inca pottery figures, one blackware and one terracotta. Custom, museum-quality stands. The figures each hold a spondylus shell in their hands and wear botanical headdresses. Deeply incised facial features, wide grins, fingers, toes, hair, and clothing. The Chimu people (900-1450 CE) of Peru perfected distinctive blackware pottery. employing smoldering flames during the firing and then buffing the surface to produce a dull sheen. Many of the pottery forms derived from the Moche culture, which preceded the Chimu in the Andean region of Peru. This pair is nearly identical except for the orientation of the spondylus shell and the fact that one is a blackware example and the other is terracotta. Custom, museum-quality stands. ~ 8-3/4"H each
