Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chavin, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A most interesting pair of solid high carat gold earrings. Each earring depicts a fish motif and hangs on solid gold wire. The red coloration is from laying against cinnabar for almost 300 years. These could be cleaned to reveal the bright yellow gold, but we recommend against it. Custom base. Size: 4-1/2" (11.4 cm) L for each. Provenance: Ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired before 1960. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108759
