Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz culture, ca. 300 to 700 CE; Mexico and northern Central America, Olmec to Proto-Maya culture, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A collection of 7 hand-built and mold made pottery figures and heads from ancient Mexican cultures. One head is a pendant pectoral or applique with a concave verso, and the other head has remains of bitumen black pitch pigment. The seated and more rounded figures have Olmecoid features such as impressed eyes and broader faces, while the largest figure is styled with an elongated head and nose, characteristic of Colima and other West Mexican cultures. Size of Colima figure: 4" L x 2" W (10.2 cm x 5.1 cm)
