Grasshopper: Latin America, Mexico, Oaxaca, ca. mid 20th century CE. Briefcase: Africa, possibly Senegal, mid 20th century CE. An enormous wooden grasshopper with separately carved wings and legs, the two longest of which are articulated, finely painted with black details. Paired with this is a one-of-a-kind Pop Art inspired metal brief case comprised of metal panels advertising Senegalese YOTOX Insecticide, punctuated by four black painted wood panels (two on each side) and brass fittings, the interior lined with French language newspaper comic strips illustrated American cartoonists Lymon Young and his longtime assistant on the "Tim Tyler's Luck" Sunday pages (1947-52), Tom Massey. A fun lot for anyone with a love-hate relationship to insects. Size: briefcase measures 14.25" W x 10.5" H (36.2 cm x 26.7 cm); grasshopper measures 15" L x 10" H (38.1 cm x 25.4 cm)
