Description:

Ancient Seas, late Cretaceous to Pliocene eras, ca. 100.6 to 2.6 million years ago. Two fossilized teeth from prehistoric sharks. The smaller tooth is probably from an earlier Cretaceous or Eocene era species and has distinctive double side cusps protruding from the root. The larger tooth is from a later and well-known species: Megalodon. Both teeth exhibit matte roots and glossy enamels and contrasting coloration. The large megalodon tooth is polished, creating an exceptionally lustrous surface. Side by side, these are a nice example of tooth morphology. It is thought that Megalodon teeth evolved from the double cusp form; the main crown expanding into a more triangular shape – crowding out or merging with the side cusps. Size of large tooth: 4.22" L x 3.03" W (10.7 cm x 7.7 cm)
