Description:

North Africa, Khouribga, Morocco, Late Cretaceous, ca. 80 to 70 million years ago. A fantastic and massive fossilized skull of a mosasaur, (platecarpus ptychodon) an extinct and prehistoric reptile! The skull shows off the large teeth and powerful hinged jaws. These jaws enabled mosasaur to gulp down its prey nearly whole, similar to modern day snakes. They were marine dwelling reptiles, and one of the dominant predators of the ancient seas with a streamlined body and webbed feet. Mosasaur fossils have also been found with sharks' teeth embedded in them! The creature who owned this skull would have stayed in shallow seas, hunting for prey and surfacing to breathe. Luckily for humans, we can now observe the sharp, ridged teeth of these fierce predators in their fossilized form! Size: 27.5" L x 9" W (69.8 cm x 22.9 cm); 25" H (63.5 cm) on included custom stand.
