Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, Phoenicia, ca. 6th century BCE. A fine set of two beads formed from 70% gold (equivalent to 15K+ gold) with a stylized monkey head in repousse on each side. The simian countenances are surrounded by radiating lines, and a hollow suspension tube is formed by the protruding semicircular tubes on either half. Size of each: 0.625" Diameter (1.6 cm); quality of gold: 70% (equivalent to 15K+); total weight: 2.2 grams.

Provenance: ex-Neil Phillips collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 1980s
