Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. An attractive pendant hammered from high-grade (94%) silver depicting a petite representation of Mjolnir, the legendary hammer of the Norse thunder god Thor. The hammer is defined by its broad, dual-sided head with rectangular striking faces and a tapered handle, and five stamped bullseye forms are enclosed within a periphery of repeating triangular stamps. A twisted, high-grade (94%) silver wire ring is suspended within a perforated slot on the handle tip. Size (hammer): 1.1" W x 1.1" H (2.8 cm x 2.8 cm); (w/ ring): 1.875" H (4.8 cm); quality of silver: 94%; total weight: 7.3 grams.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg) and then Latvia collection; found on the Baltic Sea coast prior to 1982
