Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A gorgeous ring constructed with 80% (equivalent to 18K+) wire that oscillates in two strands to create a lightweight shank with nine openwork circles. Inlaid within the ovoid bezel on top is a wine-red garnet cabochon that handsomely stands out against the yellow color of the gold. A fantastic example of ancient Roman opulence! Size (ring): 0.5" W x 0.6" H (1.3 cm x 1.5 cm); (interior shank): 0.45" W (1.1 cm); (cabochon): 0.2" L x 0.15" W (0.5 cm x 0.4 cm); quality of gold: 80% (equivalent to 18K+); total weight: 1.2 grams.

#142701

  • Condition: Ring size is not measurable due to inability to fit standard ring sizer within shank. Very slight bending to shank and bezel, with minor abrasions to face and cabochon, and light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina across gold components.
