Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A charming anthropoid figure of characteristically abstract form that is hand-carved from mottled forest green serpentine with dark brown and gray inclusions. The squat composition exhibits a deep string-cut groove that delineates the legs as well as additional string-cut decorations to form the neckline, arms, and face. Size: 2.2" W x 3" H (5.6 cm x 7.6 cm)
