Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery female cuchimilco (or star-gazer) of a petite size. The figure stands upon broad, fused feet, raises both tab-shaped arms outward, and has two small piercings through the sides of a black-painted, X-form sash. Her abstract head boasts bulging almond-shaped eyes, a slender nose, pouty lips, and black-painted ritual tattooing, all beneath an elongated forehead decorated with a register of zigzagging and stippled motifs. Size: 4.25" W x 6.2" H (10.8 cm x 15.7 cm).
