Description:

Ancient Near East/Asia Minor, southern Anatolia, ca. late 6th to 4th millennium BCE. A rare example of a female fertility idol carved from dark red-pink stone. The near-miniature figurine kneels atop ample thighs and tapered hips and curves both sinuous arms beneath her breasts. Her oblong head is of a minimalist design with only a shallow nasal crest and a pair of wide, drilled eyes comprising her countenance. Fertility idols like this example were first produced as early as the 9th millennium BCE and were found throughout the ancient Near East by around the early 6th millennium BCE. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 0.75" W x 1.75" H (1.9 cm x 4.4 cm)
