Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Ica culture, ca. 1000 CE. A beautiful rectangular textile panel comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of crimson, aqua, sunflower, fuchsia, coffee, and espresso. The textile boasts several rows of alternating colors in a neatly-arranged checkerboard motif, and some of the diagonal registers boast abstract diamond forms within. Both sides are reinforced with strips of yellow, dark-brown, and blue threads. Mounted on a fabric display panel. Size (textile): 29.75" L x 12.125" W (75.6 cm x 30.8 cm); size (display panel): 46" L x 30.375" W (116.8 cm x 77.2 cm).
