Description:

Persia, modern day Iran, ca. 224 to 651 CE. Perhaps the finest bronze handle we have had the pleasure of handling. One can only imagine the vessel this came from and how extraordinary it looked in ancient times! Solid, heavy cast handle in the form of a leaping lion. His lithe body attaching at the feet to the bottom flange as well as the top circular attachment plate. The mane created in seven rows, deeply incised spots on the body and etched designs all along the upper attachment plate. A truly wonderful piece of ancient bronze! Size: 9.5" L (24.1 cm)
