Description:

Persian - probably Iran, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. Stunning painted bone plaque - possibly off a small box. Amazingly detailed and exquisitely painted in shades of gold (using gold based paint), blue, green, red and black with a young man fondling the consort to his right, her hand reaching toward the sash on his robe; elderly man with beard and another woman in the scene to his far left. When you study the scene you can only be amazed at the degree of detail represented. The pattern of the robes, the tiled wall behind the figure to the right, and the details of the scenery behind are all just incredible! Size: 4-1/4"W x 1-3/4"H. Provenance: Ex-private M. Jones collection, York, England. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108306
