Description:

Ancient Near East, Persia, Achaemenid Period, ca. 539 to 330 BCE. A very fine cast bronze brazier of a round, shallow form with four separately cast bird -possibly eagle- ornaments or handle finials, attached to the rim, one pair opposite the other, and round iron fittings set to the interior bowl. The vessel sits upon a three-legged iron stand. The eagle, a symbol of royalty, suggests that this was intended for an individual of elite status. Size: brazier measures 18.125" in diameter x 4.25" H (46 cm x 10.8 cm); 8.875" H (22.5 cm) on stand

  • Condition: Rim of brazier shows some bending. Two round iron fittings missing from interior bowl of brazier, others with expected eroded surfaces. Surface boasts gorgeous green patina. Handles that probably once fit in perforations attached to birds are missing. Iron tripod stand shows expected oxidation and corroded areas, but still intact and functional.
