Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas culture, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A wonderful vessel of a bulbous form, hand-built from pottery, depicting a fisherman trawling the waters. Highly burnished and decorated in hues of burnt umber, cream, peach, chocolate, khaki, and jet, the fisherman presents grasping the top of a flotation device - perhaps a wicker basket - as he peers forward for a potential catch. A woven net is knotted atop his right shoulder and drapes atop his back and over his left hip, and he wears a minimalist loincloth around his waist. His countenance exhibits enormous, orange-painted eyes flanking a petite nose, thin lips outlined in black, and petite ears, all beneath a woven cap bearing a conical frontal protrusion. A broad strap handle arches atop his back and terminates as it meets the conical spout on the verso. Size: 6.75" L x 5.4" W x 7.5" H (17.1 cm x 13.7 cm x 19 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
