Pre-Columbian, southern Peru, Paracas, ca. 400 to 200 BCE. Very interesting llama bone implement used to stir and mix hallucinogenic drugs. Carved with long scoop, head of the bone in the form of a lizard-like creature, decorated with added turquoise eyes, and incised scales. An additional pair of turquoise beads have been added next to the lizard to indicate another creature of unknown species. To the ancient Andeans, llamas were far more than beasts of burden. For their nobility, llamas symbolized significance and llama figures were often buried with the royals. Quite rare this nice! Includes custom stand.
