Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas culture, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. An eye-catching bowl of a hemispherical form carved from the bottom section of a large gourd. The base features a concave nodule encircled with incised linear striations that form triangular panels, and interspersed within the surrounding areas are petite inlays of 96% silver. The silver inlays combined with the linear patterns are suggestive of a solar motif with a large sun featuring rays radiating in all directions.
