Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A fine drug container of a cylindrical form carved from bone, most likely human. The body is lined with slender reed strands which are secured with strands of human hair in a lattice-pattern motif. The bottom and upper body are sealed with resin-covered thread, the shoulder with a thin leather panel, and the conical mouth with additional resin set with small white shells. Size: 7.375" L x 1.2" W (18.7 cm x 3 cm); 2.8" H (7.1 cm) on included custom stand.
