Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 BCE. A lengthy and thick textile sash woven from camelid wool (alpaca or llama) dyed in vibrant hues of crimson red and blue. The highly stylized zoomorphic figures resemble reptiles with limbs outstretched, or highly abstract human faces with circular facial details, separated by geometric bands and checkered patterning. Such textiles were often used to not only accentuate everyday clothing but for burial as well. Mounted on a modern fabric backing, this piece is perfect for display. Size (textile): 56" L x 3.25" W (142.2 cm x 8.3 cm); (cloth mounting): 73.75" L x 19" W (187.3 cm x 48.3 cm)
